Departmental Working Papers from Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods at Università degli Studi di Milano

Abstract: In the last few years the evaluation of the university and the scientific research has become an increasingly relevant topic. In particular, the interest regarding the evaluation of the scientific publications and their bibliometric indicators has steadily grown. The new criteria acquired in the university field determine the funds to be distributed on the basis of the evaluation of the scientific productivity of universities and departments. Furthermore, on the basis of the research products, they regulate the career advancement of the individuals concerned. It is thus necessary a deep exam of the databases available in various sectors and the information that can be obtained from them. All of us, either for or against this, get evaluated every day, willy-nilly, on the basis of bibliometric indicators. With this article we wish to contribute spreading this topic, hence encouraging a debate within our scientific community.
