An Analysis of Purchases, Savings, and Participation in the PHS Drug Pricing Program

Anna Cook and Ning Dong

Mathematica Policy Research Reports from Mathematica Policy Research

Abstract: Reports on a survey of eligible entities—including disproportionate share hospitals, federally qualified health centers, community health centers, migrant health centers, and others—on their understanding of the Public Health Service drug pricing program, their decision to participate (or not participate), and the level of savings achieved through participation. Finds a large proportion of those that are eligible but not participating understand the program only slightly or not at all; participating entities report average savings of around 20 percent.
