Abstract: We estimate the impact of workplace union on gender wage gap on the French labour market. The aim of our study is to control if unions have put a lot of effort into promoting gender wage equality. Using 1992 data, we compare the gender wage gap unexplained by differences in observable characteristics in workplaces covered or not by unions. Taking into account selection bias and unobserved individual and establishment heterogeneity, our results suggest that workplace unions contribute to increase the wages for both women and men. Nevertheless, we find no significant impact of unions on the unexplained gender wage gap
