Abstract: Belgium is the fifth Western European importer and the ninth consumer, absorbing about 6% of WE imports and providing 4% of WE demand. The Belgian furniture sector is traditionally characterised by a very high level of openness, favoured by a good infrastructure network and a central location. The large scale organized specialist distribution is mainly made by international chains, particularly Dutch. The Leen Bakker (part of Blokker Holding), Kwantum (part of the Dutch Macintosh Retail) and the Dutch Beter Bed chains are examples of groups also present in Belgium. The Swedish giant IKEA is currently the market leader with 6 stores in Belgium. The report provides trends in home furniture consumption, analysis of the furniture distribution system by channel, retail formats and sales performances of top retailing companies operating in Belgium.
