Abstract: Among the Western European countries Germany is the leading country both as a furniture consumer and as a furniture importer, providing about 22% of WE demand and absorbing about 21% of total WE imports. Germany relies mainly on imports coming from Poland, (still growing), where the integration with its productive system is still high. But also imports from China have been increasing.The major difference between Germany and the other European countries is the importance of buying groups which continue to lead the furniture distribution scene in Germany. In Germany competition remains strong. The concentration process continues: in particular independent chains (such as Ikea, Krieger Gruppe, Finke, Rieger..), increased their share by 1% point. Independent smaller retailers instead lost share. The report provides trends in home furniture consumption, analysis of the furniture distribution system by channel, retail formats and sales performances of top retailing companies operating in Germany.
