Abstract: The world market for special woodworking machines (machinery for producing furniture) is worth US$ 4 billion. Investments in woodworking machinery by furniture producers in the wood segment average 3.6% of turnover. The 10 major consumers of woodworking machinery for furniture production are: Germany, Italy, United States, China, Japan, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Canada, France and Poland. These 10 countries acquire machinery for woodworking in the furniture segment worth about US$ 2,650 million. This report analyses the demand for woodworking machinery in furniture production in the top 50 furniture producer countries and investment trends in machinery, based on interviews with a sample of 150 furniture companies. International trade flows are also examined. The woodworking machinery industry shows a high degree of concentration as the main 40 companies control over 50% of the market. Basic data for the 40 largest producers include: production, sales by country, employment, investments in R&D. The country-to-country outlook provides for each of the 50 countries considered: industry conditions, machinery demand, imports and exports of secondary woodworking machinery, furniture production trends and forecast, number of furniture companies, and furniture sector structure. Data on major 300 furniture manufacturers worldwide include: address, employees, turnover, ownership, production breakdown, export/production share, main markets, investments, operations.
