The Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) of the Audiovisual Enterprises

Mario La Torre and Jenny Daniela Salazar Zapata

Economia della Cultura, 2024, issue 4, 651-675

Abstract: This paper explores how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles apply to the audiovisual industry, a sector increasingly influenced by sustainability frameworks driven by European regulation and global sustainability goals. The study contextualizes ESG within the audiovisual sector, identifying key impact areas in production processes, supply chains, and editorial content. A tailored ESG strategy model is proposed for audiovisual enterprises, integrating both compliance and strategic positioning. The paper highlights how audiovisual products – through their narrative and cultural reach – can serve as powerful tools for advancing sustainability goals. A comparative analysis of RAI and Netflix’s sustainability reports illustrates diverse approaches to ESG implementation.
