Abstract: In recent decades, the belief that vocational education and training is a key factor for sustainable socio-economic development in Europe is growing. There is a need of new approaches in the field of continuing vocational training for the preparation of human resources whose qualifications match with the needs of the National economy. These approaches should be compatible with the specific socio-economic challenges facing Bulgaria. Especially important in this regard is that it must be taken into account the current situation on labor market and the need for skilled human resources in various sectors of the economy. The aim of the present study is to justify the importance of continuing vocational training and to analyze the state and trends in its development in Bulgaria.
