Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the importance of the essence and function of Self-Government in Poland in relation to the local municipal management. In the article there are presented the functions and possibilities in the field of municipal management based on the current legal status in Poland and the organization of local government resulting from the provisions of law. The whole presented material reflects a certain mental process that took place in Poland in connection with the reform of the local government system.
