Who Offers Adult Financial Literacy Education? Research Overview

David Godsted and Martha Henn McCormick

No 2008-NFI-01, NFI Reports from Indiana State University, Scott College of Business, Networks Financial Institute

Abstract: The increasing ease with which Americans can access various forms of credit during the last 20 years has created unanticipated consequences for the financial services industry, consumers themselves, and those practitioners who provide financial education services. Bankruptcy reform, possible regulatory activities with regard to the credit card industry and the payday loan industry, as well as the sub-prime lending crisis have caused a surge in those seeking financial education opportunities, as well as a surge in the number of organizations providing those services. During the summer of 2007, NFI undertook a comprehensive national research study of financial literacy education providers.
