Abstract:
The recent development of the German electricity sector is often described as an intensifying “system conflict” between the long-established fossil-nuclear and the renewable path of power generation. However, there are institutional and technological changes in progress which could pave the way for an enduring coexistence of different models of power generation. Based on a typology the article analyses the differences as well as emerging interactions between the established technological regime on the one hand and several alternative models of power generation on the other. These different models are tied to specific institutional contexts and socioeconomic interests, have specific resources of innovation at their command and are based on different – factual and normative – criteria of technology choice.
