Abstract: The article examines some of the key defects of Bulgarian political leaders – in historical and modern aspects. The new realities of the transition era created the so-called “new political class†, consisting generally not of prepared and consensual political leaders, but of people who gained wealth in a rapid and unknown manner. This new stratum, without ideology and professional training, encapsulates itself as a caste, building networks among society. The presence of effective political leaders to reside in the power zone thanks to their merits is palpably lacking.
