Abstract: The use of GPS in sports through personal fitness trackers has become widespread. For amateur team sports, decreases in the cost of GPS devices are making tracking devices a more viable option. However, once the data is generated there are still potential barriers in accessing tools that can be used to explore the group trajectories in ways that allow a user to gain positional information with strategic relevance. This paper presents an investigation into the requirements of amateur football coaches and players by conducting semi-structured interviews of 6 people involved in amateur football at two different football clubs. Interviews were subjected to thematic analysis and organised as case studies. Requirements from this process were used to develop a prototype and participants evaluation of that prototype are discussed. The participants agreed that the tool would be useful for amateur football. Remaining barriers to using the tools, improvements for the prototype, and future works are discussed.
