Abstract: Surveying the opinions of 1,557 citizens and 588 parliamentary politicians in Switzerland on eleven post-growth sustainability policies, we find that citizens overwhelmingly support the policies, while politicians support them substantially less. Compared to citizens, politicians’ evaluation is more polarized. Given the legislative power of politicians, such political elite-citizen divergence may help explain why transformative sustainability action remains limited despite public support.
