Maternal Mortality within the African American Population in the United States

Abstract: This paper discusses the prominence of maternal mortality among the African American population in the United States. Statistics regarding the state of the maternal mortality crisis are listed, as well as how the United States compares to other first-world countries. Trends that have resulted in the crisis are discussed, as well as how they have changed over time. The effect of COVID-19 on maternal complications and the crisis are described. Lastly, there is a focus on the factors that have contributed and continue to contribute to this phenomenon, as well as potential solutions.
