It's a bit inappropriate: What to avoid when using humor in teaching politics

Abstract:
While the benefits of using humor in teaching have been documented in the literature, this article undertakes qualitative research to examine its associated risks. This is not to discourage the use of humor as a pedagogical tool in the teaching of politics. Rather, through analysis of data from three focus groups of 2nd and 3rd year Politics and/or International Relations (Pol & IR) students, this article advances a student-centric understanding of the pitfalls to be avoided by Pol & IR lecturers seeking to harness the benefits of humor in their content delivery.
