Abstract: Numerous studies have demonstrated positive associations between broader dimensions of wellbeing and health. However, evidence from Kenya on this association is scarce and mostly focused on broad evaluative measures of wellbeing, such as life satisfaction. This study draws on conceptualizations of wellbeing from Sub-Saharan African philosophical literature as motivation for examining various specific dimensions of wellbeing in the Global Flourishing Study and analyzing their association with subsequent health in Kenya as a case study, using a longitudinal panel design. Data were drawn from waves 1 (2023; n=11389 individuals) and 2 (2024; n= 7698 individuals) of the Global Flourishing Study. The data are representative of the general population in Kenya. Linear regression models with a lagged dependent variable are used to test the association of wave 1 wellbeing indicators with subsequent physical and mental health at wave 2. The findings indicate that several dimensions of wellbeing - including livelihood security, satisfaction with personal relationships, meaning and purpose, agency and freedom to pursue what is most important in life - are positively associated with subsequent self-rated physical and mental health in Kenya.
