Implications of different income diversification indexes: the case of rural China

Jianmei Zhao and Peter Barry

Economics and Business Letters, 2013, vol. 2, issue 1, 13-20

Abstract: This study investigates the rural income diversity measures. Applying Chinese rural household survey data, our OLS and quantile regression results indicate the high importance of using a two rather than one-dimensional measures of diversity. Among the two-dimensional indexes, the strong consistency of the quantile patterns between income and diversity, and the plausibility of changes in these relationships, suggest that any one of the diversity measures is acceptable in the relevant studies.
