Abstract: Abstract Geographically the term ‘Eastern Europe’ is relatively simple to define. The term has, however, often been misused or misinterpreted in political terminology. It is sometimes used as a synonym for the so-called ‘S.E.V.’ or ‘COMECON’ group of countries. Very often it includes all European communist countries. It has been used to designate simply the eastern political block of countries, and it may even stand for that group of European countries with centrally planned economies.1
