Abstract: Abstract The general relationship between levels of economic development, the degree of urbanisation and their effect on man’s environment are well known. They are highly correlated and depend on the country’s natural resources, its climatic conditions and its population density. However, general statements of this kind, or general quantitative analyses of these relationships, are of little practical value. Only slightly less trivial is the observation that a reduction in the speed of economic development, and of urbanisation, might reduce the rate at which the environment is being depleted.
