Chapter Chapter 9 in Economics of International Migration, 1958, pp 133-145 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Between 1790 and 1950 the population of the United States increased from 4 million to 151 million; during these 160 years the gross national product (in constant 1947 dollars) rose from an estimated 1 billion dollars to 300 billion dollars. Table I gives the growth of the United States population, gross national product, and per capita gross national product. The gross national product figures prior to 1910 have been derived, with certain adjustments and conversions, from the studies of Kuznets and Martin and will be used primarily to indicate magnitudes and trends.
