Abstract: Abstract In order to understand the present problems of housing in Czechoslovakia the development of the country after 1945 should be considered. In principle, three phases in housing policy should be distinguished. The first covers roughly the five years of post-war reconstruction; the second the years from 1950 till 1959, when the first programme of house-building was published and co-operative building introduced; the third phase, since 1960, is marked by a quick increase in the participation of the population in solving the housing problem.
