Abstract: Abstract In 1987 a reform of the banking system was introduced in Hungary. This reform means that now in Hungary, as in any developed economy, the most important institution of monetary intermediation is the system of competing banks, controlled by a central bank (the Hungarian National Bank (HNB) in our case).
