Chapter Chapter 8 in Economic Development for Africa South of the Sahara, 1964, pp 222-245 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Like the rest of tropical Africa, the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland is grappling with the fundamental economic problem of transforming rapidly and effectively the traditional subsistence economy—of which agriculture is the mainstay—into a modern exchange economy. This transformation process constitutes the basic characteristic of economic development in the greater part of Africa.
