Chapter Chapter 1 in The Distribution of National Income, 1968, pp 3-40 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of the present paper is to present a selection from the wealth of data bearing on changes in the distribution of income in the United States, and to indicate some of the more important structural changes in the U.S. economy that have had an impact on the distribution.1 Although data available would permit a consideration of income distribution by occupation, by race, by age- groups, by regions, by education, and other variables, attention will be mainly focused on: (1) the changes in the size distribution of income for the United States as a whole since 1929, and (2) changes in the distribution between property and labour in the United States since 1850.
