Chapter Chapter 6 in The Distribution of National Income, 1968, pp 177-195 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Since around 1920,2 striking changes have occurred in the Japanese economy. The past four decades have witnessed the drastic post-war adjustment following excessive expansion during World War I; the shock of the Great Depression; the mobilization in preparation for military and imperialistic expansion; the great impact of World War II and the unprecedented spurt which immediately followed the end of the rehabilitation period. There were, moreover, the radical institutional reforms implemented in the occupation period. The question of the effects of all of these events on the distribution of national income is an important one which deserves attention.
