Abstract: Abstract A paper on the organisation of transport enterprises requires an explanation of the direction from which this topic will be approached. Although the organisational aspects of individual transport companies will be given proper attention, it is nevertheless also necessary to broaden the scale of the analysis. Specifically because of its strategic importance, passenger as well as freight transport has always attracted a great deal of attention, not only at the management level of individual companies, but also from governments. The planning of economic development necessitates involvement of governments in the organisational aspects of transport services. After the Second World War, involvement at the political level was further expanded, with many aspects of this involvement being centred in the hands of international organisations.
