The Today and Tomorrow of Arctic Transportation Routes
Jerzy Zaleski
Chapter 7 in The Economics of Long-Distance Transportation, 1983, pp 97-105 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Transportation difficulties are a major problem in reaching Arctic regions, and especially in the economic development of these regions. The extreme climatic conditions in the polar area pose special technical problems, and investment costs and the operation and maintenance of the infrastructure have to be considered in a special light. The current development and future prospects of different transport modes in the Arctic region are considered in this paper.
