Abstract: Abstract The objective of this paper is to analyse the developments in the employment and income situation in Latin America during the last decade, by examining the scant information available. To this end, the trends observed in the unemployment rate will be examined as an important indicator of the employment situation. In addition, shifts recorded in income distribution with particular reference to low-income groups will be analysed. Furthermore, wage trends as well as the relationship between urban and rural wages and the legally established minimum wage will be investigated. Finally, based on this analysis, an interpretation will be made of the working of the labour in Latin America.
