International Price Fluctuations and Inflation: Discussion and Conclusions

Chapter 27 in Structural Change, Economic Interdependence and World Development, 1987, pp 395-402 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract After the end of the Second World War, the international economy enjoyed a long period of dynamic growth and stable prices. Only a few countries, especially those in Latin America, experienced continued inflationary pressures. In these countries a lively discussion took place between monetarist and structuralist schools of thought. Both schools had different interpretations of the causes of inflation, and hence both recommended different policy combinations to correct it.
