Empirical Study

Ararat L. Osipian

Chapter Part IV in The Impact of Human Capital on Economic Growth, 2009, pp 149-171 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This study analyses the role and impact of human capital on per capita economic growth in Ukraine and uses similar indicators of other post-transition economies, including Hungary, Poland, and the Russian Federation for this analysis. The factors that are associated with the human capital in terms of education levels are analyzed in order to measure this impact. Our approach is to estimate the significance of educational levels for initiating substantial economic growth. The model tests empirically the hypothesis that human capital has a positive impact on per capita economic growth in transition economies. We also estimate a system of linear and log-linear equations accounting for different time lags in the possible impact of human capital on economic growth.
