Abstract: Abstract As the Christmas holidays approached, Donald Holden felt under increasing pressure to solve a problem in the personnel department of Marigold Products. Holden, who was chief operating officer of the company, disliked the alternatives facing him as well as the pressure to act during the holiday season. But he realized that the situation had to be resolved because of the effects on the people involved and other executives operating divisions within Marigold.
