Worst Practices: What We Can Learn from Family Disasters

Frederick D Lipman

Chapter Chapter 4 in The Family Business Guide, 2010, pp 63-75 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines actual court cases involving family businesses to determine what mistakes were probably made that led to the litigation. Each of these court cases not only resulted in substantial legal expenses and the disruption of the business involved but also demonstrated what can happen within a dysfunctional family. The author is aware of how easy it is to criticize a family business using twenty-twenty hindsight and apologizes to the families involved in these litigations for doing so.
