Abstract: Abstract John the Fearless really did exist. He was duke of Burgundy (1371–1419), and the son of Philip the Bold (a courage-filled family indeed). He earned his sobriquet on the battlefields of the One Hundred Year War, during which he conquered Paris in 1418.
