Chapter Chapter 6 in Managing Politics at Work, 2009, pp 73-85 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The case study from the last chapter illustrated how one woman struggling with a series of interconnected, unresolved inner conflicts ultimately undermined her own performance, lost the faith of her boss, and subsequently lost her job too. So far we have examined politics in terms of the challenges caused by style issues and hidden agendas. And we have mainly focused on the political dynamics in play between two or three individual colleagues at a time. Let’s now widen out our discussion to examine how to get things done effectively when you are working in tandem with several other colleagues at any one time. This chapter, and Chapters 7 – 9 , will focus on the politics of working positively with other people and, when forming political alliances to get things done, on how to work in ways that give you the best chance of bringing your plans to fruition.
