A chapter in People Management in Turbulent Times, 2009, pp 94-95 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Over 50 years ago an early management guru distinguished between what he called Theory X and Theory Y. These were, he believed, the essential theories of managers. And they were not that complicated. Essentially they represented the optimist vs the pessimist divide: the Rousseaus vs the Hobbesians. The carrot vs the stick brigade.
