Transforming the Built Environment

Mats Larsson

Chapter Chapter 21 in Global Energy Transformation, 2009, pp 263-267 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract One sector in society that accounts for a substantial amount of energy consumption is the housing sector. Housing is closely related to city planning, through the need of each house to be connected to water, electricity, sewage and other systems. The population of a city needs access to transportation, schools, shopping and other necessities. In this way, city planners, and the legislators who set the rules for city planning, influence the long-term sustainability, or lack of sustainability, of a house, a district and a whole city.
