The Management of Globally Distributed Software Development

Julia Kotlarsky and Ilan Oshri

Chapter 2 in Managing Component-Based Development in Global Teams, 2009, pp 15-34 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Research on Globally Distributed Software Development is just emerging and the discussion of aspects relating to Component-Based Development in distributed environments is even more limited. However, there are streams of research that have been looking into various aspects relating to globally distributed software development and to some extent into component-based development. First, there has been research on GDSD and the influence of global distribution on the management of software development projects. Second, there has been research on co-located CBD, and additional research on GD teams which addresses the importance of human and social issues for success in globally distributed teams and alliances. We bring these insights together in order to assess the most critical factors that play a role in the management of globally distributed teams.
