Abstract: Abstract House prices, housing markets and credit markets are attracting a great deal of attention at the moment because of the credit crunch and large falls in house prices in many countries, including the USA, the UK, Ireland and Spain (Mishkin, 2007; Taylor, 2007). Figure 10.1 shows some of the channels of transmission of the mortgage and housing crisis to consumption, investment, output and unemployment.
