from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The Sichuan earthquake of May 2008 left 87,150 people dead and 275,000 injured, and destroyed more than four million homes. In the wake of the disaster, China asked for international assistance, something which surprised members of the international community working in the country.
