Abstract: Abstract With its unique geo-political location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Turkey has undergone rapid expansion, whereby highly diversified business groups have come to hold a significant role in the development of the Turkish economy (Bugra, 1994). As a result of the transition from a planned economy to that of market liberalisation, the governance of Turkish companies has undergone a significant transformation. One area however that has not adjusted to the new global governance regime is that of family ties and networks, dominating the ownership and management of Turkish firms.
