Abstract: Abstract Political and business leaders in the global economy have been gradually awakening to the increasing role that water plays in shaping decisions in all sectors of society. It is now widely perceived that population growth coupled with economic development means accelerating growth in global demand for freshwater, and that the world is reaching a point where local solutions may no longer be sufficient to meet that demand. Water management has traditionally been seen as a local matter, which means that water related information has tended to remain in the hands of local, regional or national agencies. As a result, it may be difficult for firms with worldwide operations and markets to effectively integrate water in their strategic planning. Nevertheless it is in the best interest of all firms to give serious consideration to how water could affect their business in the twenty-first century.
