Abstract:
Abstract This chapter addresses the question: what are the consequences of the New Public Management (NPM) for the leadership and governance of UK defence, in particular the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD)? The form and quality of the MOD’s governance is important because, as the National Security Strategy of the UK (Cm7291 March 2008: 3) states: ‘Providing security for the nation and its citizens remains the most important responsibility of government’.
