Researching Derailed, Incompetent and Failed Leaders
Adrian Furnham
Chapter 1 in The Elephant in the Boardroom, 2010, pp 3-33 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This book is about an open secret. Many of our high-flying, supposedly talented and certainly well-remunerated business, political and public services leaders derail. Some go to prison, most “just” get sacked, others have breakdowns. They suddenly resign to “spend more time with their family”. Previously hungry for media attention they are suddenly “unavailable for comment”. Many cause irreparable damage. High-flyers crash and burn; worse they take everyone down with them. They are a major cause of stress.
