Chapter 1 in Technological Innovation, 2010, pp 1-26 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In this first chapter we shall try to provide a coherent framework in order to understand the phenomena studied. Basically we shall use the two main theoretical frameworks most widely used by academics in order to explain technological advantage: (i) the knowledge-based view of the firm; and (ii) the resource-based view of the firm. We shall also include a more pragmatic view and middle-range theory: the intellectual-capital-based view of the firm.
