Chapter Chapter 2.5 in The Innovation for Development Report 2009–2010, 2010, pp 137-146 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Open innovation2 or user-driven innovation3 models have been recognized as important tools even by large, traditional companies which have long relied on internal R&D as a major source of innovations. These companies are not only often unable to meet the needs of their existing clients from within, but they are also constrained in their ability to identify and meet the needs of excluded clients.
