Abstract: Abstract Britain’s post-war return to motor sport was welcomed by the public but Grand Prix success for Britain initially remained the rarity that it had been in the pre-war period. Although Britain had a broadly based establishment that encouraged grass roots racing and rallying to flourish, success was elusive. An inherent strength in design ingenuity and rule book interpretation to the maximum winning advantage did not instantly establish the British winning routine at the summit of international motor sport.
