Abstract: Abstract Whereas Germany, the USA and Australia viewed touring car (alias saloon or stock car) racing as the finest post-war fare, the English, as ever, took their time. Finally the UK transformed a dowdy support act into a global TV money-spinner. But it took an Australian to make it happen.
