The Single European Market in Investment and Financial Services
Yannis V. Avgerinos
Chapter 2 in Regulating and Supervising Investment Services in the European Union, 2003, pp 29-49 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter seeks to provide and analyse the international and EU framework that relates to the regulation and supervision of investment and financial services. Within this context, the EU forms the most complex and sophisticated single system of financial integration attempted to date. As seen and examined in the wider global economic integration process, the Single European Market in financial services has influenced and has been influenced by powerful international integration forces. Nevertheless, the Single Market project remains unique in the world history for its legal, political and socio-economic achievements and progress.
