Chapter 5 in The Economics of Keynes in Historical Context, 2006, pp 40-52 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract One of the most striking things about the history of economists’ treatment of unemployment is the comparatively late stage at which it was even considered a problem worthy of attention (see Garraty, 1978). In the texts of the period of classical political economy the issue was not widely discussed, it generally being considered part and parcel of poverty and the conditions of the working class.
